Learn the Pattern Basics! - Class / Workshop - Sunday 21st July 2024

Do you want to have a go or get confident with reading dress making/sewing patterns? Then this is the workshop for you!

Join Angie from the Geeky Seamstress to get comfortable reading a pattern from learning the terminology to great tips. Angie started The Geeky Seamstress in 2020 while being furloughed from her full time job and together we help the customers of Royal Wootton Bassett with alterations and other sewing needs.

Bring a pattern you want to sew and we will work through all the pattern basics to get you started. Having a few different brands will show you things can be similar and different. We will work through choosing the right size, thinking about the types of fabrics and notions you need, and making basic adjustments to fit your body. You don’t need your sewing machine for this one just a pattern, pen and paper and enthusiasm! 

Once you have purchased your course you will be emailed a 10% off code to purchase a pattern for either before or after the class

Who is this workshop for?

· Anyone who wants to understand reading dress making / sewing patterns 

· Basic sewing knowledge required.

· Suitable for beginners and above

· Please bring your pattern you would like to work through (no sewing machine needed this time)

What will be covered in the 1 1/2 hours?

· You will learn everything from starting on the outside of the envelope to understanding the pattern instructions and marking and how to use them to assist you

· Together you will work how to know what size you should make your item in (as always sizing varies to each brand)

· Very basic pattern adjustments – such as lengthening and shortening

· Discussing the differences between paper and pdf patterns

· Q and A

FAQs

Will I need to own a machine? – Not for this workshop just a sewing pattern

Is a Sewing Pattern provided in this course? – No but we email you 10% off code to buy a pattern once the purchase of the workshop comes through to us.

Parking? - after 6pm there is no time limit on the side of the road so parking will be free 

What is supplied? – a help guide to take away to refer back on

What is available to be borrowed during the class? – we will have plenty of pens to get all your notes down

What do I need to bring? – sewing pattern, pen and notebook, all your questions and a charged phone / camera device

· Please arrive before 10 am if possible so we can make full use of the time we have

· Workshop size is 3 people

· Tea making and water facilities are available

· Cloth of Gold is wheelchair accessible by a ramp
