Start to love Stretch Fabric! - Class / Workshop - Tuesday 13th Feb 2024

Join Angie from the Geeky Seamstress to get confident with a range stretch fabric. Angie started The Geeky Seamstress in 2020 while being furloughed from her full time job and together we help the customers of Royal Wootton Bassett with alterations and other sewing needs.

Do you want to have a go or get confident sewing with different stretch fabrics? Then this is the workshop for you!

We will be spending 1 1/2 hours focused completely on understanding and practicing sewing stretch fabric with your sewing machine and having a go on an overlocker. We will look at the settings you need to use on your sewing machine, the types of fabrics you can use, and look at some easy stretch patterns to start off your stretch clothing sewing journey. There will also be time for you ask all the questions you want about overlockers.

Who is this workshop for?

· Anyone know wants to get more confident or start your stretch fabric journey.

· Basic sewing knowledge required.

· Suitable for beginners and above

· Please bring your machine and manual if you have a walking foot that can be used as well.

What will be covered in the 1 1/2 hours?

· You will have a go at 5 different types of jersey fabrics: French Terry, Lightweight Viscose, Scuba, Alpine and Ribbing

· Experiment with different jersey stitches such as lightening or triple stitch or a narrow zig zag

· You will have the opportunity to have a go on a overlocker as there will be one set up for the class to share.

· Being confident to add a neckline and a cuff to a test sample

FAQs

Will I need to own a machine? - No we have ones available to use but as each model is different we would rather you bring your own to get the best lesson possible

Parking? - after 6pm there is no time limit on the side of the road so parking will be free 

What is supplied? - 1 universal top load bobbin, 1x 100m thread, a pack of ballpoint needles, enough fabric to complete the exercises, plus worksheets to scribble down helpful notes.

What is available to be borrowed during the class? - we have a basic sewing kit that each person can use each session so that there is no waiting or sharing also the opportunity to have a go on a overlocker

What do I need to bring? - Your sewing machine and power cable, bits and bobs box or toolbox/bag that came with your machine, pen and notebook, all your questions and a charged phone / camera device

· Please arrive before 6pm if possible so we can make full use of the time we have

· Workshop size is 3 people

· Tea making and water facilities are available

· Cloth of Gold is wheelchair accessible by a ramp
