Super Quick and Easy Elasticated Skirt

Because of the simple design of this fabric and style of skirt it requires no pattern!!!

I have used the Foil Pleated Jersey Light Pink with Silver 100% Polyester 145cm Wide

Measure your waist or hips, wherever you want the skirt to sit on yourself. To give the skirt some gathered drama, I doubled the measurement but you could easily do 2.5 or 3 times for more gathers. 

I prefer to wear mine on my waist rather, than my hips. My waist measures 98cm, so I rounded up to a metre length of fabric x 145cm.

Then I folded the fabric in half (of the roll width) e.g. 72.5cm, I recommend putting the right sides facing together.

Now cut down the fold line, this will give you 2 pattern pieces 72.5cm x 1 metre. This will give you a midi skirt length of 72.5cm before the turning of the waist.. 

Keeping the right sides together, pin the two side seams. As this is a jersey fabric, make sure to use a jersey stitch or a zigzag. My favourite is the lightning stitch number 5 on 5060QDC 

Using the selvedge (the edge of the fabric) turn this over to make a 30mm channel for the elastic. I used 25mm elastic but you can use whatever width you like. Remember to leave a gap to insert the elastic. I prefer using a large safety pin to insert my elastic, however, I put a bodkin on the other end of the elastic, so it doesn't get pulled into the channel 

Once you have both ends, sew the elastic together. I used a zigzag stitch, (number 8 on the 5060QDC). 

Sew up the remaining open channel. As this particular fabric doesn't fray, there is no need to hem the bottom. Therefore, nothing more to do and the garment is finished.

I made this in less than 2 hours from start to finish, so enough time for my 2 year old to have naptime! 

I will be wearing mine on Christmas Day for a bit of glamour with this shimmering foil effect, and with the joys of elastic I can keep eating and it will stretch with me so all wins in my eyes!
