Yarn Wrapped Letters

Looking for a way to use up those odds and ends of yarn as well as entertaining the children for a while? This project will be perfect! In this blog post, you will learn how to make these fun decorations. They make great room decorations, and even a gift.

Supplies:

-  Cardboard

-  Scissors

-  Pen

-  Sellotape

-  Yarn

Step 1:

Take a piece of cardboard slightly larger than the letter you wish to make. Draw the outline of the letter, and carefully cut out.

TOP TIP Chunky letters with smooth curves work best for this.

Step 2:

Collect up the yarn you plan to use. I have used Big Value 50g Double Knitting From King Cole in Denim and Truffle Double Knitting from King Cole in White.

Tape the end of the yarn to the back of the letter so you can start wrapping the yarn around. Make sure the yarn will be ready to start at one edge. I have used clear tape on my letters, but a glue gun would give a more robust finish.

Carefully wrap the yarn around and around the letter.

Step 3:

If you are going to be using different coloured yarn, cut and stick in the new yarn whenever you fancy! Attach the new yarn at the back of the letter, ensure the new yarn is pointing in the correct direction.

Once you have finished wrapping the yarn, tape it at the back ensuring the end isn’t visible.

TOP TIP Some letters are harder than others. I found with the W it was easier to cut and restart the wrapping at different places to get a more consistent overall finish.
