Clothes Copying - Class / Workshop - Tuesday 23rd April 2024

Do you have a favourite garment that you have bought but want to make a pattern from it so you can make more of your own? In this workshop you will be taught how to copy the garment using a tracing wheel, pattern paper and cutting mat. Also how to check that the pieces match so you don't have any discrepancies once cut out in fabric. 

Join Angie from the Geeky Seamstress to get started sewing. Angie started The Geeky Seamstress in 2020 while being furloughed from her full time job and together we help the customers of Royal Wootton Bassett with alterations and other sewing needs.

Who is this workshop for?

· Anyone who understands the basics of garment making

· Intermediate knowledge required (because once a pattern is made you will have no instructions how to construct it) 

· Wants to get another skill added to their sewing knowledge

What will be covered in the 1 1/2 hours?

· How to copy your garment using a tracing wheel

· How to check your seams match to the original garment aka tips to measure a curve

· Once happy adding seam allowance

· How to take into account gathers, pleats without undoing the garment etc

· Add markings such as notches and the right information to add to your pattern to ensure a professional finish and that you have the right information to make it again and again

FAQs

Will I need to own a machine? - Not for this workshop as no sewing will happen in this workshop

Parking? - after 6pm there is no time limit on the side of the road so parking will be free 

What is supplied? - a pack of squared patten paper of 3 sheets of 87cm x 61cm

What is available to be borrowed during the class? - we have a basic sewing kit that each person can use each session so that there is no waiting or sharing 

What do I need to bring? - Your garment that you want to copy and anything that you feel will help you get the most from the lesson

· Please arrive before 6pm if possible so we can make full use of the time we have

· Workshop size is 3 people

· Tea making and water facilities are available

· Cloth of Gold is wheelchair accessible by a ramp
