Get to Know your Sewing Machine Part 2 - Class / Workshop - 2026

This is the follow on to part 1 of get to know your sewing machine in this one you would need to know how to thread your machine and the basic stitches. We will focus on taking the basics to the next stage and learn how to use the seam allowance guide, how to make buttonholes, using a zipper foot and doing a blind hem.

Who is this workshop for?

· Anyone with a sewing machine or wants to buy a sewing machine that doesn’t feel confident using one.

· Suitable for absolute beginners.

· Have had a machine for a while but wants to get the most out of it

· Please bring your machine and manual and different machine feet if you have them (ideally zipper and blind hem foot)

· How to understand and get the most out of the seam allowance guide 

· To make a button hole with either a 1 or 4 step method depending on your machine

· The different kinds of machine feet and how to use them to your advantage

· How to use a zipper foot and how it can be helpful in other sewing scenarios (but not putting in zips that is a separate workshop)

· Doing a blind hem which can be found on high street hemmed trousers so perfect if you want a professional finish

· Troubleshooting and how to stay friends with your machine

FAQs

Will I need to own a machine? - No we have ones available to use but as each model is different we would rather you bring your own to get the best lesson possible

Parking? - after 6pm there is no time limit on the side of the road so parking will be free 

What is supplied? - 1 universal top load bobbin, 1 100m thread, 1 zip and enough fabric to complete the exercises, plus worksheets to scribble down helpful notes.

What is available to be borrowed during the class? - we have a basic sewing kit that each person can use each session so that there is no waiting or sharing 

What do I need to bring? - Your sewing machine, manual and power cable, bits and bobs box or toolbox/bag that came with your machine, pen and notebook, all your questions and a charged phone / camera device

· Please arrive before 6pm if possible so we can make full use of the time we have

· Workshop size is 3 / 4 people

· Tea making and water facilities are available

· Cloth of Gold is wheelchair accessible by a ramp

 Should you need to cancel (including if you have Covid)
