Learn the Pattern Basics! - Class / Workshop - 2026

Do you want to get confident with reading dress making/sewing patterns? Then this is the workshop for you!

You will be provided a Tilly and the Buttons Pattern within this course for you to keep worth £18.50. Enabling you to work through the exercises and making starting your clothes making journey easier.  We will work through choosing the right size, thinking about the types of fabrics and notions you need, and making basic adjustments to fit your body. You don’t need your sewing machine for this one just a pattern, pen and paper and enthusiasm!

Who is this workshop for?

· Anyone who wants to understand reading dress making / sewing patterns 

· Basic sewing knowledge required.

· Suitable for beginners and above

· Add a note to the order of which Tilly and the buttons pattern you would like (no sewing machine needed this time)

What will be covered in the 1 1/2 hours?

· You will learn everything from starting on the outside of the envelope to understanding the pattern instructions and marking and how to use them to assist you

· Together you will work how to know what size you should make your item in (as always sizing varies to each brand)

· Very basic pattern adjustments – such as lengthening and shortening only 

· Discussing the differences between paper and pdf patterns

FAQs

Will I need to own a machine? – Not for this workshop just a sewing pattern which is provided within the price 

Is a Sewing Pattern provided in this course? – Yes a Tilly and the Buttons pattern please add a note to the order of which pattern you would like

Parking? - after 6pm there is no time limit on the side of the road so parking will be free 

What is supplied? – a help guide to take away to refer back on

What is available to be borrowed during the class? – we will have plenty of pens to get all your notes down

What do I need to bring? – sewing pattern, pen and notebook, all your questions and a charged phone / camera device

· Please arrive before 6pm if possible so we can make full use of the time we have

· Workshop size is 3 / 4 people

· Tea making and water facilities are available

· Cloth of Gold is wheelchair accessible by a ramp
